Since 2016, Elijah has been an ophthalmologist and public health eye care specialist working for the University of Zambia in the surgery community medicine department of the School of Medicine. He graduated with a Master of Public Health from the University of Zambia and an MSc in Public Health Eye Care from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
He has worked as a District Director of Health for more than 10 years and as a Hospital Medical Superintendent for more than 7 years. From 2009 to 2016, he was also the Provincial Coordinator for the Northern Province Comprehensive Eye Care program supported by the CBM. He is a member of the National Prevention of Blindness Committee (NPBC), which oversees the implementation and management of eye care programs in Zambia.
At the University of Zambia, he has participated in a range of educational and research activities. He is currently the head of the surgery department. He is a member of the Dean’s Advisory committee and sits on many academic and professional boards and committees.
His main interests include capacity building in research skills and prevention of avoidable blindness in Zambia and neighboring countries.
Outside of the university, he is a board member of World Vision Zambia, an organization working for the well-being of children in Zambia. He is an active member of many charity organizations.
