Bio/Description

John Ulimwengu is a senior research fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute (https://www.ifpri.org/profile/john-ulimwengu). Dr. Ulimwengu holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics and Master in Economics from Ohio State University (USA), and Master in Development Economics from Williams College (USA). His research interests include poverty dynamics, agricultural productivity and rural development. Since 2007, Dr. Ulimwengu is involved in strategic research on the transformation of the agricultural sector in Africa under the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP) agenda. He is currently the Africa-wide coordinator of the Regional Strategic Analysis and Knowledge Support System (ReSAKSS, www.resakss.org). In addition to coordinating ReSAKSS activities, Dr. Ulimwengu is part of the team of experts assembled by the African Union Commission to conduct independent review of National Agricultural Investment Plans (NAIPs) across Africa. He has published in journals such as Environmental and Resource Economics, Journal of Agricultural Economics, Oxford Economic Papers and American Journal of Agricultural Economics.
